Fine Art vs. Commercial Portraits
Fine art portrait:
Flaunt Magazine |
Commercial Portrait:
Seventeen Magazine |
Both portraits are of Maddie Ziegler and the first one may be considered as fine art whereas the second photo may be considered as commercial. Even though both capture the same person, they capture very different moods. For example, the first portrait portrays a darker, more somber tone as it is black and white, has moody lighting, as well as one specific light source. The commercial photo shows Ziegler as a joyful person who has been photographed with strong, flashy lighting and with the intent to sell something, whether that be a piece of clothing, brand of clothing, makeup product or brand, or hair product or brand. It also has a strong use of color and her posture seems to be leaning towards the camera rather than relaxed like the first portrait.
