Project #10 - Portrait Photography

Fine art portraits:

This portrait functions as fine art because it was taken to express a specific mood, in this case that mood was playful and happy. I decided to make the photo black and white because it portrays that even in a two-toned world, happiness can be found and it also gives a high contrast effect.

This portrait functions as fine art because it was taken to express a specific feeling, in this case that feeling is joy in nature. In order to make sure that feeling is clear, I used the strong lighting of the sun to display a shadow across the model Naomi's face. In Lightroom, I also increased contrast and increased the saturation of green to enhance the nature aspect of the portrait.

Commercial portraits:

This portrait functions as commercial photography because it was taken to make readers intrigued in what the subject, Naomi, is doing and what her occupation is. To shoot this photo, I asked Naomi to position her hand as to be pressing the elevator button because "she has places to be." In Lightroom, I tinted the photo blue to establish a color theme throughout the magazine.

This portrait functions as commercial photography because it was taken to readers want to buy a specific product, in this case, that product is the model Naomi's shoes, which are Converse. In order to make clear the product that is intended to be advertised, I had Naomi posed so that the shoe was the main focus of the photo and so that the Converse shoe is what first draws the eyes of readers.
